There are nine general résumé components for a Professional Pilot Resume
Your professional résumé should include the following essential elements: heading, objective, credentials and ratings, flying times, employment history, formal education, professional training, and availability. Memberships/other information, specialized hobbies, volunteer/community involvement, and prizes are optional. For aviation, everything must fit on one page, with no exceptions.
It is critical to have both a current and a permanent address (if your current address is temporary). The permanent address might be a family member’s or a friend’s address. If you include an additional email address and phone number, a prospective employer will be able to contact you or leave a message if you are flying when they try to reach you.
The precise position you seek should be included in your employment objective. Demonstrate that you know what you want, but keep it brief and to the point. It is sufficient to make a one-line assertion. Some current résumé styles substitute the objective with a summary statement, but there is simply no room on a pilot’s résumé to reiterate material contained elsewhere on your résumé. Furthermore, if you attend a job fair where multiple career groups are being recruited, your goal keeps you in the correct pile.
Ratings and certificates
Companies want pilots with specific ratings and certifications; hence, it is critical to provide all of your current ratings and qualifications—pilot, instructor, pilot instructor, and so on (ground, basic, advanced). Include your medical certificate as well. Include any written examinations you have passed (ATP-CTP, ATP, other), the date(s) you took the exam(s), and your score under this item (s). Only include your score(s) in the 90th percentile or higher. It is not required to list the written test if you have the certificate or rating. Include all credentials and ratings that the firm needs. Don’t forget to bring your current F.A.A. medical certificate, radiotelephone operator’s permit, and passport.
Breakdown of flight time
On a pilot résumé, it is critical to breaking out your flying hours. Any specified minimum criteria should be included in a typical flying time breakdown for your résumé: total time, pilot-in-command, instructional pilot, second-in-command, turbojet, turboprop, multiengine, single-engine, and instrument (actual and simulated). Total time for multiengine and single-engine should be the same. When completing this portion of your résumé, accuracy and consistency are critical. Prospective employers frequently cross-check the figures on your résumé and your logbooks. Avoid using substantial round numbers and stick to whole numbers (500, 3,000, and similar numbers). Be precise rather than speculative. To double-check your calculations, use a calculator or a logbook application. Do not count time spent in a simulator in your overall flight hours. Include the following flying times in your flight time breakdown: cross country, night, and instructor (IP). Turbine time is time spent in an airplane with a turbine.
Experience at work and Airline Pilot Job Description
Your work experience is crucial for your résumé that an employer will carefully analyze. This portion frequently generates the most points and drives the interview. This part must demonstrate that you satisfy the minimal standards of the prospective employer. It should also highlight your unique skills and capabilities.
Formal schooling is available.
A future employer learns a lot about you based on your academic performance and engagement. Always include your highest degree and four-year degree on your résumé. If you did not complete college or are still enrolled, use the when (from/to), where (location), and what (degree obtained) style once again. You need to present your graduation date if you have finished a degree program. Indicate the name of your institution, your major and minor fields of study, and your academic status or G.P.A if it was above average (honors, dean’s list, and other comparable distinctions). List any outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular activities related to your aviation career objective, proven leadership, and other highlights.
List any part-time jobs you had while studying, and indicate if you paid for any of your tuition and living expenses through employment or subsidies. Include sports, clubs, flying, volunteering, and anything else that took up your time outside school. G.P.A.s less than 2.5/4.0 may be a problem for some airlines/employers, and these extracurricular activities may assist explain a lower G.P.A.
Special education and training
This part allows you to emphasize any professional or technical qualifications or experience you have that might benefit the position you seek. This is a good spot for civilian pilots to discuss the sort of training they got, where they obtained it, and if the school was Part 61 or Part 141, among other things. CRM, EFIS, check airman qualification, college, military aviation training, and additional training should be included in this part in addition to flying instruction. List these occurrences in reverse chronological order, using the when what, and where format.
Participation in organizations/volunteering/community service (optional)
This area replaces your professional and social associations directly relevant to flying or assisting your community. I also advocate the when, what, and where the structure for this part.
